Module 1 – Introduction into Industrial painting
This module introduces the industrial painting profession and explains where industrial painters work, what their responsibilities are, and how protective coatings are used in different industries. Module 2 – Safety & PPE
Industrial painting can involve chemicals, dust, high-pressure equipment, heavy machinery, working at heights, confined spaces, fire hazards, and other serious risks. This module introduces the main safety rules that every industrial painter must understand before starting work. Students will learn how to identify hazards, use personal protective equipment correctly, protect their breathing, work safely around equipment, and respond to emergencies. The purpose of this module is not to make students safety specialists. It is to give beginners the basic knowledge they need to protect themselves, protect their team, and follow workplace safety procedures.

Module 3 – Surface Preparation Fundamentals
Good surface preparation is one of the most important parts of industrial painting. Even the best paint will fail if it is applied over rust, oil, salt, dust, moisture, or other contamination. This module explains why surface preparation is necessary and introduces the basic standards used to judge whether a steel surface is ready for painting. Students will learn about contamination, rust grades, surface cleanliness, surface profile, and the checks that must be completed before paint application begins. The purpose of this module is to help beginners understand what a properly prepared surface looks like and why preparation quality directly affects coating life.

Module 4 – Surface Preparation Methods
Industrial painters use different methods to remove rust, old coatings, dirt, oil, salts, and other contamination from steel surfaces. The correct method depends on the condition of the surface, the required preparation standard, the available equipment, the coating specification, and the work environment. This module introduces the most common surface preparation methods used in shipyards, factories, construction projects, and maintenance work. Students will learn the purpose, limitations, and basic safe use of hand tools, power tools, grinders, needle guns, high-pressure water cleaning, degreasing, and final cleaning methods. The purpose of this module is to help beginners understand which preparation method is suitable for each type of job and how to recognize when the surface is ready for final inspection.

Module 5 – Abrasive Blasting
Abrasive blasting is one of the most effective methods used to remove rust, mill scale, old coatings, and other contamination from steel surfaces. During blasting, compressed air pushes abrasive material through a hose and nozzle at high speed. The abrasive cleans the steel and creates a surface profile that helps the new coating bond correctly. This module introduces the main equipment, materials, safety systems, and working techniques used in abrasive blasting. Students will learn how a basic blasting system works, how to recognize its main components, how different abrasives and nozzles affect performance, and how correct blasting technique produces an even and properly prepared surface. Abrasive blasting involves high pressure, dust, noise, flying particles, heavy hoses, and dangerous equipment. Beginners must therefore work only under proper supervision, follow site procedures, and use the required protective equipment

Module 6 – Industrial Coatings
Industrial coatings protect steel and other surfaces from corrosion, chemicals, water, weather, abrasion, and mechanical damage. Different working environments require different coating systems. A coating used inside a freshwater tank may be very different from a coating used on a ship’s underwater hull, deck, structural steel, or chemical tank. This module introduces the main types of industrial coatings and explains the purpose of primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats. Students will learn the basic characteristics of epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich, antifouling, and tank coatings. They will also learn how to read a Technical Data Sheet and understand important product requirements before mixing or applying paint. The purpose of this module is to help beginners understand that industrial paint is part of a complete protective system. Each coating layer has a specific purpose and must be applied according to the approved specification and manufacturer’s instructions.

Module 7 – Industrial Painting
Industrial painting requires more than simply spraying paint onto a surface. The painter must prepare the equipment, select the correct spray tip, adjust the pressure, mix the coating correctly, and apply an even film at the required thickness. Mistakes during application can cause runs, dry spray, pinholes, uneven coverage, excessive film thickness, poor appearance, and early coating failure. This module introduces the main equipment, materials, and techniques used during industrial paint application. The main focus is airless spray painting, which is widely used in shipyards, factories, offshore work, structural steel projects, and industrial maintenance. Students will learn how spray systems work, how to prepare and mix coatings, how to control the spray pattern, and how to apply paint safely and consistently. The purpose of this module is to give beginners a practical understanding of industrial painting before they begin supervised hands-on work.

Module 8 – Working in Real Conditions
Industrial painting is often performed in difficult and changing conditions. Painters may work outdoors, inside tanks, on scaffolding, in poorly ventilated areas, around other workers, or in locations affected by temperature, humidity, wind, rain, and condensation. These conditions can directly affect safety, productivity, surface preparation, paint application, drying, curing, and final coating quality. This module explains how environmental and workplace conditions influence industrial painting work. Students will learn the importance of checking weather conditions, understanding dew point, maintaining ventilation, working safely in confined spaces and at height, planning tasks correctly, and communicating clearly with supervisors and inspectors. The purpose of this module is to prepare beginners for the reality of industrial painting work, where conditions are rarely perfect and safe planning is essential.

Module 9 – Quality Control & Inspection
Quality control ensures that surface preparation and coating application meet the required specification. Industrial painting work must be checked at different stages. Inspection may include surface cleanliness, environmental conditions, coating appearance, wet film thickness, dry film thickness, curing, adhesion, and the condition of repaired areas. Painters are not always responsible for formal inspection, but they must understand what inspectors check and how their own work affects the final result. This module introduces the main inspection methods used in industrial painting. Students will learn how coating defects are identified, how film thickness is measured, why inspection records are important, and how defective areas are repaired. The purpose of this module is to help beginners understand that quality is checked throughout the job, not only after the final coat has been applied.

Module 10 – Starting Your Career

Module 11- Final Examination
The final examination checks the student’s understanding of the main subjects covered throughout the Industrial Painter Training Program. Students must complete the examination and achieve the required passing score to finish the course.
